The Winners of the KunstFilmBiennale 2007
On 21. October 2007 theAwards were presented to the winners of this year’s KunstFilmBiennale at the Filmforum in Museum Ludwig, Cologne.
Winners International Competition:
Guy Ben-Ner with "Stealing Beauty", D/IL/USA 2007

Winners BILD-KUNST Promotional Award:
Sylvia Schedelbauer with "Ferne Intimität"(Remote Intimacy), D 2007

Winner German Film Critics’ Award:
Doug Aitken with „Sleepwalkers“, USA 2007
Out of the 46 films vying in the International Competition, two tied for the 15,000-euro prize sponsored by Filmstiftung NRW. “Stealing Beauty” by Guy Ben-Ner, an Israeli living in the USA, is a furniture-store sitcom that takes place against the backdrop of the cozy domestic set-ups at IKEA – until the store gives the actors the boot. “Lonely Planet” by German media artist Julian Rosefeldt follows a German backpack tourist wandering – budget travel guide in hand – through the dream factory and reality that is today’s Bombay. The award was handed over by Michael Schmid-Ospach, director of the Filmstiftung NRW.
48 films competed for the BILD-KUNST Promotional Award for experimental film, which comes with 25,000 euros in prize money sponsored by VG Bild-Kunst. The jury announced a tie in this case as well, between the films: “Ferne Intimität” (Remote Intimacy) by Sylvia Schedelbauer and “Das Modell” (The Model) by Florian Gwinner. The award was handed over by Cay C. Wesnigk, member of the administrative board of the VG Bild-Kunst.
The jury awarded honorable mentions to:
“Whirr” by Timo Katz and “Wellen” (Waves) by Daniel Burkhardt.
The German Film Critics’ Award, without prize money, went to American Doug Aitken for his film “Sleepwalkers.”
