Ripple Participates in e-HKD Pilot Program

Ripple, a leading crypto solutions company, has announced its participation in the digital Hong Kong dollar (e-HKD) central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot program initiated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). The company will collaborate with Taiwan’s Fubon Bank and other partners to demonstrate equity release using tokenized assets through a retail version of the e-HKD CBDC. Tokenization Streamlines Equity Release Process

According to Ripple, tokenization can streamline the equity release process, reduce friction, and enhance efficiency for banks. James Wallis, Ripple’s vice president of сentral bank engagements & CBDCs said that “we now have the opportunity to demonstrate how real estate asset tokenization could be brought to the citizens of Hong Kong”. The company believes that fully integrated solutions would serve as an industry-first use case which highlights potential leveraging CBDC for real estate equity asset release.

Six Use Cases Explore During Pilot Program

The HKMA outlined six use cases to explore during this pilot program: full-fledged payments; programmable payments; offline payments; tokenized deposits; web3 transactions; and settlement of tokenized assets.
